Learn how to add 12 inches to your Occidental Leather suspenders using Suspender Extensions. Step-by-step guide for big and tall builders.

Quick answer

Attach a pair of Suspender Extensions to your 5009 or 5055 suspenders to add 12 inches of length, giving big and tall builders a comfortable fit without buying new suspenders.

Why You Might Need Extra Length

If your suspenders are pulling or riding up, the straps may simply be too short for your torso. The Suspender Extensions (Pair) add a full 12 inches to each side, relieving pressure on your shoulders and keeping your tool belt at the right height.

Compatibility Check

These extensions are designed specifically for Occidental Leather 5009 and 5055 suspenders and suspension systems. If you have a different model, the hardware may not match. Check the back of your suspenders for the model number before buying.

How to Attach Suspender Extensions

  1. Remove your existing suspenders: Unclip the front and back of your suspenders from your tool belt or pants. Lay them flat so you can see both shoulder straps clearly. Do this on a clean surface so you don't lose any hardware.
  2. Choose which side to extend: Decide if you need more length on one or both sides. Most big and tall builders extend both sides equally for balanced support. Extending only one side can cause your tool belt to tilt.
  3. Attach the extension to the suspender buckle: Take one Suspender Extension and loop its leather end through the metal buckle at the bottom of the suspender strap. Pull it back through to secure it, just like you would with a belt. Make sure the leather is fully seated in the buckle and not twisted.
  4. Clip the extension to your belt or pants: Use the metal clip on the free end of the extension to attach it to your tool belt or pants. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other side. Double-check that both clips are facing the same direction for a clean look.
  5. Adjust the length and test the fit: Put on your tool belt and suspenders. Adjust the front and back buckles to distribute the load evenly. The belt should sit at your natural waist without riding up. If the belt still rides up, you may need to loosen the shoulder straps further or add the extensions on both sides.
